PAUL IRVINE

As a designer, maker and teacher based in Hoylake, I work primarily in native British timbers – oak, ash, elm along with silver, bronze and steel, using traditional tools and techniques to create pieces that are carefully constructed and built to last. Influenced by Arts & Crafts philosophy and Scandinavian design, my focus is integrity of materials, elegance of proportion and utility of use. In this exhibition at the Williamson, I am curating a selection of functional and sculptural pieces designed for everyday use and longevity. Some works begin with a conversation, evolving into a collaborative creation of tomorrow’s heirlooms.
