Laura Weston
Laura Weston is a Printmaker and Applied Artist. Drawing on the domestic, nostalgic and emotionally resonant world of her sketchbooks, vivd imagined landscapes are inhabited by flora and fauna. She is always on the lookout for creatures, objects, patterns forms and colours that will inspire new works.

Laura studied fine art at Wolverhampton Polytechnic between 1984- 1987 specialising in printmaking and animation. She embarked on a career in animation and then became a Senior Lecturer at Staffordshire University. She returned to printmaking in 2009 exploring themes and designs inspired by drawings in her visual diaries. Laura applies her imagery across a broad range of artefacts from ceramic, laser cut, block printing and textile designs.

In 2015 she was commissioned by BigPicturePress (Candlewick) to produce illustrations for “The Butterfly Garden” a children’s picture-book, published in five languages. In June 2017 a second American edition of the book received a prestigious Kirkus star review. Laura is always looking for new applications for creative practice and in summer 2017 began drawing digitally using a pressure sensitive Apple Pencil and IPadpro. A series of colourful large Giclee prints of these drawings (using acid free archival paper and inks) will be launched at the Oxton Art Fair this year.
