Influenced by his native Scotland, a need to be by the sea and an inquisitive mind colour his sense of place and his position in an environment of pervasive change.
Working primarily in acrylics, affords Derek the freedom to work on several explorations simultaneously. The resulting expressions becoming abstracted as the investigation excavates deeper the observations, emotions and processes that feed his intuitive need to paint.
