I work in mezzotint, wood engraving, etching, and drypoint and have exhibited in Denmark, Canada, Australia, U.S., Poland, Belgium, Russia, Estonia, Malaysia, Egypt, Italy, France … and in the UK at the Society of Wood Engravers, the Royal Engravers, New English Art Club, Royal Academy, Royal Scottish Academy, and Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, of which I was elected Associate in 2019.
On the surface my prints are representational. The content is chiefly urban and/or figurative, and they aim to catch the texture of the everyday world – places, times, effects of light and weather. I am also very concerned with the abstract geometries which remain visible in the world of appearances. The main influences on my etching have been the etchings of Rembrandt, and modern Dutch and Scandinavian printmakers.
